I use Linux as my daily driver, but I still need Windows from time to time. So, I was planing on getting an RX 7800 XT for Linux (since I like to do native gaming if possible) then I wanted to use my existing 2080ti for Windows since Nvidia is better on Windows. The 2080 I have is like a 2.5 slot design, and the RX 7800 XT probably wont be much smaller, so it would need to have at least 3 slot spacing. My case has 7 slots and the bottom is kinda restrictive, so best bet would be a 16X really close to the CPU then another 16X 3 slots down. I would put the RX 7700 XT in the top slot and bifurcate the top and bottom for the 2080ti. The board would also need good virtualization support and smart IOMMU groups. I dont really care about the cost since this is a long term thing anyways, and I am good with any of the chipsets. I prefer black for the board and dont really care about fluff like RGB.

The 7800 XT performs about 37% better than the 2080 Ti. There seems to be no benefit to choosing the 2080 Ti.

When working in a Windows VM with GPU passthrough, single GPU setup is problematic. Since I already have it, the issue isn't mine.

For gaming, use all anti-cheat flags and treat VMs like cheatingnfyi

Increasing productivity and exploring local AI opportunities are on the rise. You can also leverage the HyperV workaround—run a paravirtual machine under HyperV, as anti-cheat systems typically don’t monitor HyperV and many Windows users use it for WSL or similar setups, making bans less likely. Additionally, Microsoft employs HyperV in Xbox games, so developers rely on it. Paravirtualizing involves setting up a KVM on Linux, enabling HyperV via Windows features, and letting Windows operate within its own HyperV virtual environment under Linux KVM.

This Gigabyte B650 AORUS Elite AX motherboard offers a decent space between the slots. The lower slot appears to only work with one card when two are used. Check the official page for details.

You'll need to inspect the physical connectors and verify availability of an online user guide.

I believe I located it in that discussion—it's the Strix X670E-E Gaming. It comes at a higher price, but it’s $200 less than the top model of the MEG X670E ACE. Compared to the ACE, its spacing is 3-3 instead of 4-3, and with the GPUs at 2.5, it should still fit well and provide some airflow. If temperatures get high, having a water cooling option would be a great advantage.
