You're seeking guidance on running older RTS/City games on your current setup. It's wise to think about upgrading graphics hardware and checking compatibility with modern operating systems. Connecting to 2k monitors is acceptable since those games won't display well in lower resolutions, but you may want to test it. Consider antivirus software for added security. The new Compaq Presario offers better performance, so running Windows 7 should be feasible with proper drivers.

Dell Dimension will not sustain damage, though the integrated graphics will lag noticeably when handling basic tasks. A dedicated graphics card is recommended. Avoid linking this system to the internet. Compaq Presario SR5605F This machine will perform well with Windows 7 as it stands. Upgrading memory and CPU will keep it functional, and a 64-bit version should run smoothly on this setup.

I chose the hardware based on the PC I owned. The Dell Dimension had strict limits, so I’d consider switching to a Compaq and upgrading. I’d likely stick with a 32-bit setup, probably running Windows 7, which would feel more practical than a 64-bit version.

WinXP without an internet link works perfectly. Even though Age of Empires 2 was updated for current systems, you won’t have to revert to older settings. Just stick with it unless you’re keen on it.

It seems you're checking if these titles run smoothly on a 32-bit operating system, or if an older OS like XP would be better.

To understand which operating system or game is suitable, look up details on Wikipedia. AoE2 was popular before WinXP (2001). Age of Empires 2 came out in 1999 and has updates for newer systems. Zeus/Pharoah/Ceaser was originally for MS DOS in 1992 and later versions. Star Wars: Galactic Battlegrounds was made for XP and likely supports older systems. For better compatibility, especially with 64-bit games, using XP is advised. Win98 or Win2k would work best. You can also try GOG.com for additional support if needed.
