After several power interruptions during my travels, my B550 Steel Legend seems to have stopped working entirely. Initially it wouldn't power on, then after unplugging and reconnecting it, it began displaying error codes on the debug LED. I swapped it with my brother's system—changing CPU, RAM, and power supply—and it now fails to turn on at all, though other parts still function properly. Since I don’t play games or focus on performance upgrades, I just need a reliable PC build. My current setup includes two 3.0 NVMes, 2x32GB RAM at 3200MHz, and an ATX motherboard. I’m considering the MSI Tomahawk on sale and wondering if it’s a suitable choice without overspending. Any recommendations?
Have you checked the CMOS battery as well? It might help sometimes. If it’s completely dead, I switched to the Asus Tuf Gaming B50 PLUS for my 5900X setup. It didn’t have any major issues, though. It's tough to pick just one board, but B550 is a solid choice with some excellent alternatives. Besides checking reviews on sites like Newegg, verify that the VRM includes cooling. Many budget B550 boards lack VRM heat syncs, which can affect performance on your 5950x. B550 stands out for being affordable, lacking a chipset fan, and offering decent I/O. You might consider upgrading to X570 if you want better options.
I don’t understand why so much RAM is required, but if that’s the case, I recommend a board with T-configuration. The only affordable options I’m aware of are higher-end ASRock X470 boards such as the Master Sli or Taichi. A daisy chain could work too, though it’s not the best solution. Since it’s quad rank, you’ll likely need to adjust some settings to restore the original speed. Alternatively, just proceed with this approach.
T-Top boards work well with high-end AM4 chips, each daisy chain setup offers sufficient memory layout for four sticks at over 3600MHz, and quad rank ensures performance even above 3200MHz.
Yep, sadly to no avail For some reason it's selling for more than a B550 Strix-A here Yeah, I was planning on staying with a mobo of the same level of my previous steel legend. x570 sounds good but it's way. more expensive here, and I don't really need the extra IO, 4 lanes of PCIe 3.0 are enough for me. That'd be a great idea, but I forgot to mention that I'm not in the US, and my mobo is already past the warranty period, unfortunately. The steel legend is currently going for ~$315, while the tomahawk is ~$225, so I guess I'll just go for it since no one pointed out any drawbacks (only thing I've seen so far was the poor amount of usb ports on the back, which doesn't bothers me that much). I work with data, tons of data, and I usually run out of those 64gb. I don't think you can find any T-topology B550s out there, and my current dimms worked fine with the default xmp settings. I wouldn't mind downgrading the speed a bit in order to run 4 sticks either, so that's a non-issue.

Anyway, considering our taxes and the current BRU/USD rate, this price is really affordable for a motherboard here. I'm focusing on this specific model because it's the most budget-friendly ATX B550 on sale right now—next one would be 40 dollars more.
