Counter Strike stands out as my top choice in all-time RTS history. The depth of strategy involved in every match really enhances the experience. Playing solo or with a team both offer unique challenges. I strongly suggest it to anyone seeking an engaging new RTS.

What exactly you're after? CS is decent, but it doesn't fit the RTS mold. OP: If you want a solid RTS experience—significantly better than SC2 in my view—try Supreme Commander and Supreme Commander: Forged Alliance. Check out the community there. A much improved RTS option, even LinusTech would approve. Plus: juretrn
Have you ever tried Command and Conquer? Red Alert 3 is famous, yet nowadays it's worth more than buying it for $5 extra at GameStop. (keep an eye out for the Origin codes)
