This game stands out among my top favorites, but I feel the creator lacks the patience for The LONGEST JOURNEY—clearly titled that way. Adventure titles thrive on keeping choices hidden and direction ambiguous, which is another key trait. I’d recommend Mirror’s Edge. It’s likely the only linear first-person experience from the last decade with a compelling narrative. (Bioshocks is overrated.) Most other first-person action games here struggled with storytelling, offering only shallow Hollywood-style moments stitched together; titles like The Witcher and Tomb Raider fell short in depth. If you value substance over flashy set pieces, expand your perspective.

For its narrative, you might enjoy playing Thomas Was Alone, Brothers, To The Moon or Deponia.
