I previously enjoyed a lot of Star Wars: The Old Republic, but I’ve grown tired of consistently seeing low frame rates around 20 FPS during PvP matches. Despite having a powerful system—4790k at 4.9 GHz and a solid 980 TDS—I’m frustrated by the performance issues. Are there any good multiplayer games on modern engines that work well? I’ve heard WoW runs smoothly on six cores now. If you’re looking for free options, I’m open to suggestions, though if it’s a paid title and the game is great, I’m flexible. I also appreciate the visual style of Ego, but it seems to only run on two cores and struggles with PvP and raids. Is Ego free now?

Have you added any extensions for TOR? They usually resolve issues and improve functionality.

It seems they only improve performance on lower-end systems.

Have you used them? Is TOR really that highly optimized? It seems newer than KOTOR.

I used them before, now I'm switching to Ryzen which runs slower than my 4790k, so I expect it to be even worse now

Seeking subbed, paid, or free-to-play titles? @M.Yurizaki highlighted Final Fantasy 14 as a solid MMORPG. I suggest Elder Scrolls Online.

It looks like you're trying to identify the source of a game or series, possibly checking for updates or remakes. You mentioned several titles and are curious about their availability or status.

I'm into FFXIV at the moment, late starter only playing since October last year. Guess I like it as I'm still in it... there's a free trial up to level 35, and pvp opens from level 30 so you can still get to try that. They redid pvp recently so there is no gameplay advantage to playing it for longer, other than getting better of course. The early game is very different from the end game, but it introduces you to the world and mechanics. I played for the main story at first, but it will eventually run out and you can choose whatever path you feel like later. I'm not hardcore so I don't do extreme/savage content, but there's still lower level raiding and other things to do. Speaking of which, the weekly reset hit today and I have things to kill.

I enjoy playing FXIV a lot, but it feels distinct from other MMOs since it’s heavily story-focused. You need to progress through the narrative to unlock the main content. Recently they added a purchase option—a potion similar to the level skip in WoW—that lets you bypass most of the early material and jump straight into the Heavensward expansion, so you still need to engage with 60-70 items. As a premium MMO, it fits the pay-to-play expectation and offers a polished experience you won’t find in free-to-play titles.
