I've been testing some third-party dark themes for a while, but they ended up making window backgrounds appear light grey. I tried using the built-in Windows 7 dark mode—it worked great, but it turned off the visual styles, causing issues like tearing and stutter in most fullscreen apps. I'm searching for a theme with fully black backgrounds that still allows visual styles to be enabled.

This response doesn't address your query directly. Remember, Windows 7 is no longer supported and poses significant security risks since it won't receive future updates. Consider upgrading to Windows 10 at the earliest convenience.

But if you really want, I have a dark theme that should fit my old laptop. If I manage to boot it, I’ll tell you the name of the system.

Instead, consider switching to Linux. If you're new to Linux, Fedora Workstation is a solid choice as it includes GNOME as the default desktop environment. For those more experienced, Arch can be installed with a GTK-based version of Windows 7 that resembles it. The project is also available on the AUR. I'm uncertain if the Windows 7 lookalike comes exactly what you need, but you could modify the repository to add a dark-theme option. Edit: Linux Mint is another viable option that closely resembles Windows 7 compared to other distros. Edited May 31, 2022 by .wncry added linux mint suggestion

The laptop isn't starting up, yet the SSD remains functional enough to retrieve it from the directory layout... "Cayon-X" was the model I had around 2014, based on the age of the folder system.
