Seeking higher frame rates in games like Valorant, GTA V and Red Dead Redemption 2. Considering the RTX 3060 Ti but hesitating on a new GPU. Upgrading to an i5-12600K CPU could help? Your current setup uses a GTX 1080 i7 8700K.

The processor is significantly quicker, likely offering 15-20% better CPU speed. This should translate to noticeable improvements in frame rates when playing 1080p games.

Looking at the GPU landscape, upgrading your graphics card isn't necessary. On the GPU side, options include Alder Lake, Zen 3, or holding out for Zen 4. Alder Lake is costly relative to the board cost. I believe patience will pay off—Zen 3 is likely to become much cheaper (5800x dropped from $300 at Microcenter). If you're willing, waiting a few months for Zen 4 could be a substantial upgrade. Still, your GPU and CPU remain quite strong!

Good match overall. A 12th gen processor enhances performance in situations where GPU isn't the bottleneck. With a 1080p setup, it's usually only needed for low resolution. Have you experimented with overclocking? I noticed my 8700k often hits 5ghz on an RTX 3080, except for competitive gaming and MMOs.
