Hello everyone, I'm considering an upgrade to my E5-1630 v4 CPU. I need more cores for some Autodesk applications, but I'm working with a student budget. I'm sticking with the X99 motherboard and socket 2011-v3. I've seen 6800k and 5820k chips listed around 200USD on Ebay. What do you think about these options?

They’re basically the same as the 1600, with newer models offering much better performance. If raw CPU power is your priority, these chips aren’t ideal. X99 has advantages too, but they’re being overshadowed by newer systems. I’d consider Ryzen unless you rely heavily on software that specifically needs Intel hardware.

Many of the Autodesk applications I use perform better on Intel processors. I acknowledge that a Ryzen chip would still provide sufficient performance, but I've invested significantly in this X99 board and haven't decided to sell it just yet.
