Your laptop and PC are connected to the same network, but they don’t have passwords set for their accounts. When you try to connect from your laptop, it prompts for an access key and password because those haven’t been configured yet. You can still join other devices on the network without entering a password if you’re using the default or shared credentials provided by your router or system settings.

The PC now supports password protection for sharing, which is functioning properly. The main issue is connecting via Remote Desktop—still needing a password, and I’m unsure about its security.

To ensure folder sharing functions properly in Windows 10, you must assign unique usernames and passwords for each device. After that, grant access by adding the machine or user along with their credentials to the folder permissions. This change was implemented by Microsoft to standardize operations across servers.

Remote desktop will always require a password. No way around that.
