Installed AVG and received a warning about a file named "torjan horse generic8_c" in the program files directory. Attempted removal via AVG and manually cleaning didn't succeed. The issue involves extended element data appearing across multiple .exe files, and deleting it isn't working. You've just reinstalled your PC with no system restore available.

After a fresh install, if it isn't working properly, I'd try reinstalling it again. If the issue is severe and average removal fails, managing to clear it might still leave behind problems down the line.

It doesn't have to damage your computer. Running Malware bytes often scans everything!

If you simply reinstalled it, I’d do it once more. Even after removing the malware, some damage might remain. If I were you, I’d reinstall everything again and avoid clicking those “Free 100 games on steam” ads.

Absolutely in agreement. Malwarebytes seems like a solid choice, I hope it helps.

Here are some steps to follow:
- Install SAS from the provided link.
- Perform a complete scan using SAS; share the findings here if any are detected.
- Install Malwarebytes from the given URL.
- Run a full scan with Malwarebytes; post the results if needed.
That should help.

Download MalwareBytes on another machine, save it onto a USB drive, boot your current PC in safe mode, then open malwarebytes during the transfer—change its name while moving, as a trojan might block detection by popular antivirus names. If it fails, try forcing launch, look up instructions online, perform a complete scan, and eliminate any threats. It’s easy enough. PS: AVG doesn’t work well (I’ve had similar issues with Avira and AVG). PPS: Open msconfig via Windows key + R, type “msconfig,” navigate to the Startup/App tab, turn off all except antivirus and drivers. Press Ctrl+Shift+Esc to launch Task Manager—if it doesn’t appear, you likely have a serious infection. Search through Windows folders for taskmgr.exe or similar, rename it to something safe, so antivirus won’t recognize it. You can then disable the suspected process. And by the way, is your infected program a rogue one (a trojan masquerading as useful software) or just a normal malware? Let me know if you’d like help fixing it. I’m a virus specialist—I once cleared 60 trojans without major damage ;D

Occasionally they can't eliminate viruses, so they keep them in Quarantine. Also, I suggest using BitDefender or Kaspersky instead of AVG because the latter isn't very reliable. You might also want Malwarebytes and Super Antispyware.
