Securing retention windows in a fresh installation
I am upgrading my PC from an i7 4th Gen to a Ryzen 3500. I own a retail Win 10 license tied to my Microsoft account and want to retain it on the new machine. Before switching, I need reassurance that nothing will be disrupted. To clarify: (I’m aware this may not work, but I just wanted to confirm) If I connect my existing hard drive with Windows to the new hardware, can I still run Windows? If that doesn’t work and I must reinstall, what steps should I follow? Do I need to give up my current license before starting a fresh installation? Are there any precautions I should observe? Thanks.
Running your computer smoothly doesn’t require giving up your key or changing the hardware.
It’s likely your system will start properly. Try launching without taking out the key and check if the license remains active.
