I am upgrading my PC from an i7 4th Gen to a Ryzen 3500. I own a retail Win 10 license tied to my Microsoft account and want to retain it on the new machine. Before switching, I need reassurance that nothing will be disrupted. To clarify: (I’m aware this may not work, but I just wanted to confirm) If I connect my existing hard drive with Windows to the new hardware, can I still run Windows? If that doesn’t work and I must reinstall, what steps should I follow? Do I need to give up my current license before starting a fresh installation? Are there any precautions I should observe? Thanks.

Ensure your system runs smoothly by relocating the hard drive to the new motherboard. To delete your license key, open the command prompt and run slmgr.vbs /upk. Remember to save your files before proceeding.

Running your computer smoothly doesn’t require giving up your key or changing the hardware.

It’s likely your system will start properly. Try launching without taking out the key and check if the license remains active.
