You're dealing with a computer that occasionally freezes and restarts, especially during login or certain tasks. The issue seems to be related to missing operating systems or unstable drivers. After trying several power supplies and components, you've already installed a Windows 10 bootable SSD, which appears to be working. Consider verifying the installation process, ensuring all drivers are up to date, and checking for any pending updates. If the problem persists, try booting from another USB drive or a different partition to rule out corruption.

It may indicate a hard drive problem. Ensure it remains powered for sufficient time to execute CrystalDisk.

It’s probably the 500GB hard drive that’s reached the end of its life—over five years past its prime.

In fact, yes! I was planning to mention that during one session, the computer ran long enough for the launch Crystal Disk Info from a USB flash drive, and the software indicated everything was fine with the drive/HDD. The HDD label shows a date of July 21, 2011.

It seems the hard drive is likely malfunctioning, which is remarkable given its longevity. These days, hard drives are affordable, making it possible to purchase a 240GB SSD at a low cost, significantly enhancing performance.

As syn2112 mentioned, it seems outdated and possibly malfunctioning, despite SMART's confirmation. Upgrading to new hard drives is quite budget-friendly. I’d consider trying that instead.

I was trying to persuade my friend to switch to an SSD, but I doubt he handles his finances wisely, so I think I’ll set up a brand new Windows 10 installation on the extra internal Seagate Barracuda HDD he lent me.

That indicates the product is outdated, but you can still purchase 500 GB storage devices.

since people no longer purchase 500GB 3.5 inch drives, they’re also a poor choice versus a 1TB HDD at the same cost, a shift that began roughly five years ago, meaning anyone with a 500GB drive is probably outdated or not very smart.

I received the drive that causes the computer to freeze while it tries to run Crystal Disk Info once more. It’s odd that the disk information shows just 459 power cycles and 874 hours of operation—874 hours is about a month!
