I felt the same, though 40c in BIOS isn't terrible. I'd begin there before the operating system. I'd revert to the initial PSU connections.

It depends on how long he's been there—perhaps when the system started freezing, things might have stopped working properly. It could hit shutdown thresholds, and since he isn't responding, it seems like he realized it was time to stop.
