Second screen malfunction after changing GPU from RTX 2080 Ti to GTX 660
Yesterday my RTX 2080ti malfunctioned. I had to swap it out with an older GTX 660 that was sitting unused while I installed a new one. Now, after removing the display drivers and reinstalling, Windows 10 recognizes both my monitors, but only one shows a desktop. In the display settings I see both screens, yet changing to multiple displays doesn’t update anything. When I go to "Additional display settings" and pick the second monitor, Windows says it isn’t active. The connection and cable function properly—startup shows the Windows logo with spinning dots on the second screen, then the login screen appears on the first. Has anyone experienced a similar issue? Any suggestions for resolving this?
Additional details: No indication of a second display appears in the NVidia control panel. My first monitor is an LG 27GL63T-B connected via DisplayPort, while the second is an old LG Flatron E2240 using a digital to HDMI cable. I also tested a digital-to-digital cable, but the problem persisted. After completely uninstalling the graphics driver and restarting, only my second screen displayed at 800x600 resolution. The rest of the system runs on a Threadripper 2920X with an Aorus x399 Pro board.
Restart the display by removing the power cord and pressing the power button for a few seconds. After reconnecting the power, check if it functions properly.
Sure, I can switch to a different port on the monitor and test it with another PC.
The second monitor (the one Windows marks as inactive) only features a DVI connection. I don’t have another PC to try it out, but yesterday both monitors functioned properly on this system—except with a different GPU. Also, during startup I see the Windows logo on the second screen, and when I enter UEFI it appears there. It seems only Windows or possibly the NVidia driver is experiencing an issue.
