Second screen issues and slow performance when main display works well
I recently enhanced my processor, GPU, and RAM, and thoroughly wiped all storage devices before reinstalling Windows. Since then, my second monitor has started lagging and producing artifacts severely, making it nearly unusable. My main monitor remains stable. I've changed cables and ports on the GPU without success. Drivers are current, and recording my screen didn’t capture any issues. The only solutions I’ve found are restarting the PC, logging out of Windows, then back in, and briefly unplugging the cable before reconnecting. Both monitors are functioning properly—my 1440p 165Hz model and my 1080p 60Hz model have worked until now. A YouTube video details the problem; specs included: MB: MSI X470 GAMING PLUS, GPU: RADEON RX 6800 XT, CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D, RAM: SILICON POWER GAMING 32 GB (2x16 GB), DDR4-3200, PSU: EVGA SUPERNOVA 850 G2, OS: Windows 10 Pro.
I'm using my main monitor without problems on DP, while the secondary one is connected via a DP to HDMI cable with the DP side going to the GPU. I changed the ports on the GPU but the issue persists. I plan to use a regular HDMI cable when I get home, though I've been using this one for years without any problems.
I've tried swapping cables and ports, but the problem persists. It seems to happen anytime, but playing games—especially Wow—makes it more likely. Once it starts, unplugging and replugging the cable fixes it temporarily, though it seems to work again after a while even with frequent game launches. I also recorded my screen to check for artifacts or lag, and it was slightly lagging during recording but no visible artifacts appeared.
