So here’s what I’ve been doing—I’ve been using this pirate edition of Windows 7 since May and a few days ago, I decided to clear everything from my drives and install a fresh version. I heard something about spybots and trojans being included in these updates, which has made me nervous. The version I’m on is this: anyone know if there’s a trojan in it? Can I run a scan to find it out? I didn’t notice any problems while using the computer. Edit: I scanned my local drive many times with Malwarebytes during that time.
Checked for malware using Malwarebytes. Were you using the free version or did you realize you were using pirated software?
Windows activation includes various sections where you can input details such as manufacturer, Asus, Gigabyte, MSI, Biostar, etc. It's essentially a signed copy of Windows that appears to have been purchased directly from the original equipment manufacturer by Gigabyte for their OEM systems.
I've been using it since this may, and I reinstalled it a few days ago. There have been no problems at all. I ran multiple scans with Malwarebytes each time my system was clean during that time. Should I be concerned? The version indicated pre-activated—just insert the CD and let it work.
Everything appears normal. The malware didn't reveal any issues.
It contains no malware. It's simply an OEM edition, usually pre-installed. It was activated using Daz or KMS. Possibly the Windows version creator used an official MSDN-technet ISO and added a Gigabyte logo to give it a local feel. You can even build your own Windows variant with V-Lite, customizing logos, themes, driver packs, pre-installed apps, and more. The installation was either attended or unattended, among other details.
Thanks a bunch, everyone! I really needed this support—it lifted my spirits a lot!
