Looking for a ready-made setup but aiming for the optimal M.2 configuration with AMD 9950x3d. Primarily focused on software dev, 3D rendering, and machine learning—expecting at least an RTX 5090 paired with a couple of M.2 SSDs, preferably PCIe 5 for maximum performance. Since the GPU will handle ML workloads, I need a board that supports integrated GPUs without contention. Some boards offer multiple PCIe 5 slots, which should be fine. A 10Gb Ethernet is nice but not essential. Memory requirements are high—ideally 96GB minimum, preferably 128GB. I'm trying to balance quad-channel usage with dual M.2 sticks to maximize speed. Budget isn't the main issue; avoiding bottlenecks is key. Based in the UK, I'm considering scan.co.uk for a tailored build, as other prebuilt options lack suitable M.2 choices. Some models I've seen are ASUS ProArt X870E-CREATOR WIFI, MPG X870E CARBON WIFI, and ROG CROSSHAIR X870E HERO. The priority is getting the most out of RAM and SSDs. Open to other recommendations.

Usually, having more VRM improves performance here, especially without ASRock. Adding a 60W Type-C front panel charger is a nice touch.

The issue with Asrock at the moment is that there are reports of some X3D CPUs dying on Asrock boards. It isn't consistent, but then it's sort of like a reverse lottery. Buy an Asrock board for an X3D CPU, and get a chance to "win" it killing the CPU.

The issue with Asrock at the moment is that there are reports of some X3D CPUs dying on Asrock boards. It isn't consistent, but then it's sort of like a reverse lottery. Buy an Asrock board for an X3D CPU, and get a chance to "win" it killing the CPU.

Generally it should work, though not all configurations will. For very high-density builds, using four 32GB or 64GB modules isn’t ideal—consumer systems don’t support quad channels. If you need a 128GB drive, combining two 64GB modules should suffice. The same applies to 96GB or 2x48GB setups. Problems arise when you attempt 4x32 to 64GB configurations. I own a system with a 9950x, plus four 64GB modules and two 3090s. I chose this setup because of their USB-C video output and dual GPU support via two PCIe 5.0 slots. Initially I could only reach 4800MHz with 256GB RAM, but after some updates it improved to 5600MHz. Beyond that point I haven’t pushed further. If dual GPUs aren’t necessary, any of your recommended motherboards will work well, so you can opt for the more affordable option.

Some CL28 boards provide higher speeds but may be more board-specific, making it harder to find a universally optimal balance. If RGB isn’t important, it won’t significantly affect the choice.

One problem with the boards, aside from the ROG Strix X870E-E, is that adding two M.2 Gen 5 SSDs might reduce the primary PCIe slot to x8. This suggests you could only use one M.2 Gen 5 in slot 1, with slots 4 and 5 for Gen 4. Some advice indicates the Strix design avoids this issue, but the Asus product page confirms that M.2_2 and M.2_3 share lanes with the main PCIe x16 slot. It looks like all the boards you checked might have this limitation.
