Searching for suggested power ratings when purchasing a UPS.
I have been operating my PC for some time now, with the PSU plugged directly into the wall outlet. Recently, I noticed frequent voltage fluctuations almost every day. Sometimes the lights and fan would shut off completely, only to restart at high speed with the lights flashing intensely before returning to normal and repeating this cycle.
This has led me to consider purchasing a UPS, but I’m unsure which one to choose—VA or Watt. Here are my PC specifications:
- Processor: i5 13600KF
- GPU: RTX 3070ti
- Motherboard: Gigabyte B760M D2H
- RAM: 16GB x 2 DDR5
- Storage: Two HDDs, one SSD, two M.2 drives
- Cooling: Noctua NH-D15
- Additional fans: Six 120mm + one 140mm
- Monitor: Samsung Odyssey 25-inch LS25BG400EWXXL
I plan to connect the monitor, which is likely up to 35W, to the UPS since I wouldn’t be able to use it without it during a power outage.
I’ve also lowered my CPU’s voltage because it would overheat quickly—reaching 100°C almost instantly during testing on Cinebench. My typical usage is about 6–8 hours on weekdays and 10–12 hours on weekends. Most of my time is spent browsing the internet and occasional gaming at low or medium settings.
I’ve heard that a 1500VA UPS would suffice, but I still need advice from experts before making the decision.

For instance, how long should the battery last?
Previously, my power was inconsistent too.
I purchased an APC ups 1500 which performed well on the rig in my signal. It operated for 30 minutes on battery.
I need an UPS to stabilize this voltage so it doesn't damage my equipment. Since I'll just hibernate or shut down the main power and turn off the electricity, a 1500VA unit with a 900W rating should be sufficient. Also, in my area, APC UPS models are significantly more expensive than CyberPower ones. Are the Cyberpower units reliable?
