Searching for real-time strategy and TV series options, especially if DoWII is still available to play.
Searching for fresh strategy titles to try. I've moved away from Starcraft's format and explored other RTS games, including TBS series like Civilization. What are your favorite strategy games? Is anyone still playing Dawn of War II? I'm a big fan of the 40k version.
I own all the DoW titles but haven't played them much lately. I strongly suggest Company Of Heroes and Company Of Heroes 2. Both are enjoyable, though I favor the second mainly for its improved tank selection. Playing as the Germans is a highlight, using units like Jagdtiger, Ferdinand, and Tiger. Supreme Commander 2 offers a lot of fun but lacks an active online scene—still, you'll find matches. It's also a good option if you have a second monitor; you can view the main map clearly and use the secondary for a broader perspective, helping you monitor forces and enemy movements without constantly zooming out.
COH offers a different visual style and gameplay flow compared to StarCraft. The progression paths are structured through expansions and base-building stages, whereas StarCraft focuses on real-time tactical combat. Regarding Dawn of War II, it hasn't been played as frequently lately, and the community might be smaller due to its niche appeal.
I prefer games with many online players. It's unclear if this feature is available, as the game seems quite outdated.
Starcraft requires minimal investment, making it different from COH. In COH you typically construct a few base structures, cap resource points, and optionally add a second headquarters. As an ally, you usually receive a mobile command center—though I mostly stick to Germany and enjoy their tanks. I play DoW less frequently since it feels repetitive, but I still favor DoW Dark Crusade over DoW II. A popular mod for it is Firestorm over Kronus, which aligns the game more closely with tabletop mechanics. The main drawback is the engine struggles with large-scale battles, especially when dealing with hundreds of units on the field. It doesn’t include Titans, which is understandable. Still, it’s enjoyable for tabletop fans, particularly because of the armor system—armor types are distinct, and vehicles need specific weapons to take damage. For example, space marines with bolters can’t harm a Land Raider unless you equip rockets, lasers, or plasma weapons.
