Searching for platforms eliminating Nintendo ROMs
I occasionally save ROM files for games I own, hoping to revisit them or add mods. My collection is mainly from the Game Boy Advance era. I wanted to experience Super Mario World again. I searched a popular ROM forum (name left undisclosed), only to discover every Nintendo title has been taken down. In fact, the entire Nintendo website was removed (including Game Boy, GBA, N64, etc.). I suspect this is due to Nintendo planning to patent Game Boy emulation, or perhaps another reason. Thought it would be worth sharing. DISCLAIMER: I only emulate games that are hard to locate on original systems and no longer available. I enjoy playing hacked or modified versions, which can only be accessed through emulation. EDIT: When I search for a title like Super Mario World on the GBA and visit that site, I get a blank page with one line: "This page has been removed due to copyrights."
It's strange, the place I usually visit works just fine, and honestly I own a ton of DS games, so it doesn’t bother me. If there’s a plan, there’s a way.
Nintendo should update its approach overall—generating income from ads in YouTube videos, restricting users to just one device type per account.
It's amusing that it matches my answer, too—something about an angry jay.
It revolves around what matters most. They should focus on current priorities rather than outdated items they no longer make or sell, as this can actually benefit them by attracting more players and generating interest in the ongoing series.
They likely discussed Nintendo securing a patent for the GameBoy emulation and exploring its potential applications. I just wanted to pass along the update, noting that websites are now deleting Nintendo ROMs.
