Searching for NAS software suggestions.
Hi everyone!
I'm seeking a suggestion for free NAS software. There seem to be several options available. Something affordable would be ideal. This is intended for a home setup. I'm looking for something straightforward to install. Would benefit from features like RAID or disc mirroring. Right now, I mostly use my NAS just to store music, photos, backups, and a few other things. I'd like to share some pictures with friends by sending links. Maybe I'll set up PLEX later on. It's not much more than that at the moment.
Thx!
I own a Synology 2 bay NAS but have a rack with 3ru open and some good hardware nearby, like a motherboard, 4-core processor, RAM, etc. I only need a case. My intention was to install a rack-mounted NAS for more storage space since I often fill up my drives with hobbies, music, photography, etc. FreeNAS/TrueNAS is usually suggested, though it can be tough for beginners. I also have a rack mount pfSense firewall/router already set up. Perhaps I’ll start there first. Just curious if there are other options worth thinking about.
