Searching for MOBO capacitors online.
I purchased this Z690 ASUS ROG MAXIMUS HERO at a good price. However, the package arrived in bubble wrap and some sides are bent or pins are broken. I suspect a capacitor might have failed. (I checked the top right corner—there’s the correct orientation for the capacitor, otherwise it could cause trouble.) I received a full refund and hope to restore it to working condition. Could you suggest a compatible replacement capacitor? I’m not familiar with specs and find Mouser confusing without knowing what I need. Local repair shops have offered little help or high costs. Is this a feasible DIY fix? I don’t think ASUS support can assist, so any advice would be invaluable! Thanks, J
It's a filtering capacitor, often containing extra components that aren't strictly required. It functions without it (voltage regulation could be marginally poorer). It's better to check the board first without swapping the cap, then replace it only if you confirm no internal damage during shipping.
Check if the cap matches the previous one—it seems similar in specifications. You might be able to connect solder pigtails and keep using it.
FP stands for Fujitsu Polymer, which has been acquired by Nichicon according to available information. 19Cz refers to their series 271, specifically 270 uF (27 plus one zero appended). 16 is noted as 16v. The discussion connects to a thread and some options found on Mouser; make sure to verify with physical measurements to confirm compatibility. I haven't soldered a motherboard before, so the challenge of handling large ground planes isn't something I can fully assess.
You're correct. The brand doesn't matter. When soldering a motherboard, it's just as challenging as working with other electronic boards. Be careful not to touch anything else with your iron and always pay attention to the capacitor's polarity if it has one. Good luck!
*This involves similar complexity to other electronics, but the intricate motherboard PCBs demand significantly more heat.*
A pass-through capacitor is among the simplest parts to attach on any circuit board.
