Searching for an affordable alternative to your WD n900.
My WD n900 router has worked well for me, but it’s beginning to show performance and connectivity problems, so a replacement is needed. Any thoughts on the AC1200 or Juplink AX1800? If you’re looking for something under $40, with gigabit ports and at least one Gig LAN port (since I already have gig internet), what other options come to mind? Let me know if you want Juplink Wavlink suggestions.
Ports with 1Gbps capability don’t ensure a router can deliver true gigabit performance. If you’re paying for high-speed internet and need those speeds for your devices, choose the right gear. At that price point, you’ll likely face underwhelming results. Have you checked the reviews before purchasing? The first option looks questionable, with slow speeds even on a gigabit connection. After all, you’re getting what you pay for.
The TP-Link AC1750 is a solid router with a 4.5-star rating and over 60,000 reviews.
The situation is clear. As mentioned before, a Gig WAN port doesn’t automatically mean it supports Gigabit internet. It requires some processing power from the router to handle Gigabit NAT. My $200 Synology Router is only rated around 941 Mbps according to tests on Smallnetbuilder.com. In reality, a budget router simply lacks the CPU needed for true Gigabit performance. The reason some low-cost routers have Gigabit ports is that they need them to support speeds over 100 Mbps, and the chipset in those devices might handle a few hundred Mbps at most.
The Archer C8 offers solid wireless performance for its era. When NAT Boost is disabled, it achieves speeds exceeding 700Mbps on connections between LAN and WAN, as well as WAN to LAN. However, expect lower rates when using WiFi. Refer to the summary image provided...
