currently possess two questionable B450 Asus boards without warranty. One runs a Ryzen 5 3400G, the other a Ryzen 5 3600. One has a faulty USB header, but neither has provided much help so far. I’m looking for replacements with built-in Wi-Fi (the current Asus ones lack this). Considering my budget, the Gigabyte B550M DS3H AC seems like a possible fit. I only have references for the R5 3600 model, though. Option one: purchase just one board and handle the issue. Option two: search for an R5 3400G compatible second board—prices are steep. Option three: try swapping the R5 3400G onto the Gigabyte B450 DS3H (it supports it), pairing it with another R5 3600, but that would require replacing the original board and might be complicated). I’m not keen on the hassle, especially since my existing RAM should still work fine.
You know BIOS downgrades can work, right? Just pick any board that supports 3400G, revert the BIOS to an older version, and you're good to go. What are the trade-offs between these choices versus the B550m Pro4 with a Wi-Fi 6 card? None of these options will be great for future upgrades, but the 5700X is the best fit.
I'm not entirely sure how this connects to my original query, but I've upgraded and downgraded the BIOS on these ASUS boards because of an ACPI issue that Windows can't resolve. Regarding the faulty USB header, it seems damaged – you might be able to fix it, though any light taps or impacts could dislodge it. Prices generally range from about $179 to $210. The only other boards I've found are X570 models starting around $339.
