I own a Wi-Fi adapter and spent a long day attempting to connect it, testing around six drivers each time they failed or triggered a system crash. I’m looking for something priced near $20 that supports 5GHz and AC, but keeping it simple—LINUX (Xubuntu 16.10) must be included out of the box. Any suggestions would be really helpful. Also, my current adapter is slow, only delivering about 1.5MB per second instead of the expected speed, and I’ve noticed a 10MB download rate.

Have you explored applying ndiswrapper alongside the Windows driver? Check the Ubuntu help page for details on the Ndiswrapper documentation. Also, are you familiar with the Wi-Fi chipset? There could be some hidden native drivers available.

Checked the make build log file and found an issue. Could someone clarify how to fix it?

Check with Thermosman and Mr. McMister for assistance. The NDISWrapper is available, but the manufacturer only provides it as an EXE and a note. A Google search for the chipset didn’t return any results.

You might access the files inside the exe with an archive tool like 7zip, since many driver installers run as self-extracting archives.

another linux setup is failing... all my programs won’t start properly. I guess trying Linux was a risk, but I’m mostly to blame for the mess. Still frustrated—installing something could’ve ruined everything. (The dependencies weren’t met, so it cleaned up everything.)

I haven't located any AC Wi-Fi solutions with kernel drivers yet. Until I do, I'm relying on Atheros chips. The AC models I've checked seem to be Broadcom-based. There are many reviews mentioning difficulties achieving full speed with closed-source drivers on Linux.

What Wi-Fi adapter are you using? How quickly can you download my connection—about 10 megabytes per second? I’d like to really utilize that speed. Thanks for the details.
