Hi, I'm searching for a router upgrade that fits VDSL2 (Australian FTTN) standards. It should support Port Forwarding and UPnP, with a WAN port for future needs. I'm aiming for the most affordable option that meets these essential features. Avoiding expensive models like the ASROCK 9000X XTREME, I just need something reliable. Also, since I'm in Australia, I need to ensure it can be bought and shipped there.

Are you sure about the terminology? there's no vdsl2 as far I can tell. me personally I only use these routers https://en.avm.de/products/comparing-avm.../vdsladsl/ i also have a fancy "business" router from Zyxel, but i prefer the fritzbox tbh, its just easier to use. i have FTTN, no issues with my fritzbox. Yes.

But isn't 200 Mbit/s still considered slow? Isn't it more about conversion rates? I thought routers should support at least 1GB/s these days, right? It seems the terminology around VDSL2 and the mention of 2.5 gigabit are confusing. Naming conventions really matter... Either way, they should accommodate any speeds ISPs offer now, shouldn't they? Also, I'm not claiming Fritzbox is the best—just that my Zyxel works well for setup, port forwarding, etc., and I can configure it in minutes using my phone.

What you've linked is a fiber modem. OP is looking for (V)DSL, which runs over copper wire. Since they said FTT N (not FTTH), I assume they have optical cable to the nearest n ode and it's copper from there.

oh yeah... as said that's what i have... i get it, its not necessarily easy to find the right modem although i think with a bit of research it aint too difficult... i remember my Zyxel i just looked up what Telekom uses because i knew the line belongs to them... now im with Telekom and use my 1&1 branded fritzbox... its all the same to me lol... but you're right, if its fiber only it wont work for op, or me. ps: those would work, i guess!? and my Zyxel too, since i have FTTN (for sure) HERE: 60 bucks! https://www.idealo.de/preisvergleich/Off...zyxel.html "VDSL2"

It looks like this product isn't available at any Australian store and appears to be limited to European markets. This isn't very useful for someone outside the EU.

The Zyxel is also worth checking out—search for VGM-1312. It seems many similar models exist under the same name.

The issue is that this model is quite old and no longer gets firmware updates. It works well in bridge mode with a newer router because it has a solid VDSL2 modem. However, it isn't recommended as your primary router. DSL routers can be unreliable depending on the quality of their modem. For instance, ASUS offers excellent Ethernet routers, but their DSL versions often lack firmware support and use low-quality modems. That's why the VMG-1312 became popular in UK forums as a bridge modem, letting users select from a wider range of standard Ethernet routers.

Affordable or the latest version? Pick one. (Last update was around 2019, and Telekom still seems to offer it—plenty for me.)
