Hi there.
I’m reaching out about my brother’s needs. He wants a 14" laptop that’s super portable—easy to carry around, especially during travel or flights. It should be slim and lightweight, ideally just enough to handle basic tasks like browsing the web and running Office applications without feeling heavy. He only needs to surf the internet and run simple programs.

He previously owned an Acer Swift 3 with an AMD Rizen 5, 4500, 8GB RAM, and a 1TB SSD. I suggested he consider Chromebooks, but I didn’t have much evidence to support that idea. The main points are: the laptop must work perfectly without internet, and it should run MS Office smoothly.

Could you help me with some ideas?
- What’s your budget range? (£500–£700)
- What size notebook are you thinking of? 14 inches
- What screen resolution is important? Clear and smooth, no flickering
- Do you need a portable or desktop model? Portable
- How long should the battery last? A full day would be great
- Would you like to play games on it? If yes, please list the games and their settings (Low, Medium, High)
- Are there other uses you want? Photo/video editing, charts, PDFs, basic office stuff—nothing too heavy
- What storage capacity do you require? Around 250GB or more
- Any specific retailers you prefer to buy from? No, but I’d like a good warranty
- How long do you plan to keep the device? About three years
- Which optical drive would you prefer? DVD ROM/Writer, Bluray ROM/Writer, etc. – none
- Are there any brands you dislike and why? I’m open to suggestions
- Where are you based? UK
- Any extra details you should mention? Emphasis on slimness and light weight. No heavy CPU tasks, but quick startup and Office work needed.

The Acer works adequately, I’d lower the drive size to 500gb to save costs. It should perform better than a Chromebook unless you opt for a more advanced model, after which prices will be similar.
