My ASUS RT AC68U stopped working this morning. I switched it over to a TP Link AX4400 because that’s what Walmart had nearby. It’s really bad quality. Most of my smart devices aren’t connecting, and I’m getting really frustrated. I’m trying to find a reliable router for our home. Since I used ASUS before without problems, what should I consider? I want something simple—easy setup, password protection, and the ability to link my garbage disposal.

Budget reference. You mentioned Walmart, so it seems you're based in the United States.

I'm based in the US. I wanted to keep costs under $150, but having a working router is more important than worrying about expenses.

I thought about checking Netgear options. It seems they don’t focus on low prices. Maybe upgrading your existing TP-Link setup or fine-tuning the configuration could improve performance significantly. Network solutions require careful setup, not just quick fixes.

The update includes minimal changes. I checked every setting and everything seems fine. What might have been overlooked? Your previous router performed exceptionally well.

I’m not keen on creating a trans-ocean configuration thread. My straightforward reply is... yes, it exists.

If your main issue is with smart home devices, the problem could be related to WPA3. If you're dealing with that, setting up a separate IoT network with MAC filtering and WPA2 might resolve the issue. Alternatively, if you're comfortable with technical details, exploring items from this list could give you more control over your setup.

I've experienced excellent results with Google Wi-Fi. Having them installed in several homes and businesses has eliminated any problems. The chances are nearly zero, but if you're in the same area, I'm offering a brand new model of their latest router (my brother didn't need it, and Best Buy won't accept a return because I arrived late). No matter where you purchase it, I highly suggest their routers—they perform well and the mesh setup is incredibly straightforward.
