I've just moved into a new home, so it's clear I need to get the network ready before tackling other tasks. I've been comparing different options like Netgear Orbi and TP-Link mesh systems, but I'm unsure if I'm missing something. I also explored Ubiquity solutions since I managed a small office network, though I rarely used it after installation. Mostly, I'm thinking wireless because the house only has one coax connection per floor—no Ethernet needed. I want to extend coverage to three floors (two stories and a basement) and connect the garage, which is 200 feet away. I don’t want to run cables or dig trenches. Ideally, I’d like remote access via VPN and be able to add devices like IP cameras that anyone can reach. Do you think this falls under consumer gear or requires commercial equipment? Would setting up a few routers with custom firmware and directional antennas work for me? Any specific guides would be helpful?
