Trying to examine AM5 motherboards has been frustrating lately. It feels like I'm constantly searching without success. My setup is nearly eight years old—Ryzen 5 1600X, MSI B350 motherboard, 16GB DDR4 RAM, Arc A770 graphics card. I’m planning to upgrade my CPU, RAM, and motherboard. I already have my CPU and RAM choices locked in: a Ryzen 7 9700X with 64GB of Corsair RAM. For the motherboard, I only need a few extra features. About six USB ports on the expansion slot would be ideal, and at least four SATA ports are necessary. I prefer a standard ATX case size. Anything else is not a priority. I’m not planning to overclock or store massive amounts of data; a single M.2 slot should suffice. I don’t require built-in Wi-Fi (I already have Ethernet). So far, the only option that fits is a B650 from MSI, but it includes Wi-Fi which isn’t needed. Do you have any suggestions? Your feedback would be greatly appreciated. - RolesG
Almost every B650 model comes with built-in Wi-Fi. It’s probably worth having it even if you don’t need it right now. You might want to think about the budget you’re planning for the new PC. You don't require a GPU? I’m referencing that part since I changed the first comment. I’m not sure if you noticed I included this video. If you’re planning to get a B650, it’s a good fit for your budget. Just remember you’ll need to update the BIOS. Make sure your motherboard supports the BIOS flashback button. Otherwise, you won’t be able to run a 9000 series on a 7000 series board. But with the BIOS flashback feature, you’ll avoid issues.

Not really. For a motherboard with Ryzen 9000 without a bios update, you’ll likely get the x870 or x870E. However, it’s no longer affordable. The B650 or B650E are still solid choices, even with minor overclocking. Gigabyte offers many rear USB ports and possibly SATA connections. The x670 could be another good pick for more USBs. The Gigabyte B650 Elite AX provides decent performance and has four SATA ports. You just need to install the M.2 slot without disabling any of the four SATA ports. There are plenty of rear USB ports available. Yes, it supports BIOS flashback called "Qflash Plus." The only drawback is the lack of support for SPIDF audio or digital audio connectors. There isn't a good thing about SPDIF, but I'll look into it. If I locate an x670 motherboard within my budget, that could be worth considering too. Thanks a lot for the feedback. I'll watch the video later.
Integrated Wi-Fi offers handy functionality! With my ASUS TUF B650 PLUS WIFI, the antenna functions both as a Bluetooth receiver and antenna, letting me link my wireless Xbox controller via Bluetooth. I don’t rely heavily on Wi-Fi since Ethernet is also in use, but Bluetooth works well. Today it’s not uncommon to find Wi-Fi modules affordable.
Bluetooth offers a pleasant extra feature, yet most of my audio gear and even my gaming controller remain wired. It just makes things much easier, at least from my perspective.
The B650 Steel Legend WiFi from Asrock offers SPDIF audio and four SATA ports. It includes many rear USB and BIOS flashback options.
