Have you ever assembled a computer? And if not, how confident are you in creating one yourself?
At around 2200 euros anything under a 5900x feels unrealistic, and any motherboard below a Strix B550-f gaming model seems questionable. A 5900x paired with a Strix B550-f Gaming would be my preference. A 5600x doesn’t fit well in a mid-to-high range gaming setup in 2021; six cores aren’t sufficient for many new AAA titles. The 5800x doesn’t belong there either, as the 5900x only costs an extra 100 euros for double the cores/threads. Moreover, the 5900x will always hold more value than a 5800x, making it essentially more expensive. The 3900x is currently selling for over $100 more than a 3800x, indicating it’s actually been more affordable to own. Resale values usually mirror performance to some extent, so prices are set close enough to reflect the actual difference in capability.

Avoid the Ryzen 3000 as it performs poorly compared to Intel 10th/11th generation and is now more costly. It was once a solid option due to its lower cost for slower speeds, which is understandable. Opt for Intel 10th/11th generation or Zen3. The Ryzen 3000 has no relevance in mid-to-high range builds.
It's quite quick and budget-friendly. I'm looking to cut costs wherever possible while letting him invest as much as he can in a GPU here. Plus, the guy mentioned he'll be using it for "light gaming," so a 3700X seems unnecessary. It includes virtual TPM 2.0 and is basically future-proofed for Windows 11.
