Searching for a suitable motherboard now.
Hello, I’m still getting familiar with building PCs and would appreciate some guidance on choosing a motherboard. You’re looking for something compatible with a USB 3.1 Type C port and suitable for a mid-tower setup. I don’t need a Wi-Fi model because those tend to be costly, and I’m not concerned about having many RGB headers. Just a straightforward, recent motherboard would work best. Right now I’m using a Gigabyte Z97X-SLI-CF, and I understand you can purchase PCIe cards with USB C adapters, but I’m mainly upgrading my overall system.
You're aware that acquiring a new motherboard with a Type-C front header requires additional components like a CPU and RAM, correct? The Z97 board supports 4th and 5th generation Intel processors and DDR3 memory. Most boards with a Type-C header plug are LGA1200 or AM4, which don't accommodate those newer chips or memory types. You might consider using a PCIe card that includes a Type-C port instead. Are you planning a full rebuild or simply updating your case and motherboard?
Intel CPU i7-4790 running at 3.60GHz, still stable now but planning an upgrade soon.
there are several motherboards compatible with that CPU, but keep in mind the costs might be higher than expected. As the demand for Haswell CPUs has faded over time, finding suitable boards can be challenging and sometimes pricey compared to newer options.
Sure, I understand. It's actually my first PC, and I'm making sure to spend some time improving it. I hope within a few months the graphics cards will be much better.
Thanks a lot! It really makes sense to upgrade with a new processor and motherboard because my current chip is only the 5th generation. I’m sure a 10th gen would be better anyway.
