I recently chose to try dual booting my system so I can experiment with both Linux and Windows. I’m familiar with the basics of Linux, especially Ubuntu, but I’m seeking a distribution that’s user-friendly for Steam play and Proton integration. I noticed Ubuntu MATE is marketed for this, but I’m curious about its performance with Steam and the setup process. Essentially, I want to know how straightforward it is to configure Ubuntu MATE for Steam play and Proton. If it doesn’t seem worth the effort or is simpler on other distros, please let me know. And yes, I’ve already seen Linus’s video on Linux gaming—both the older and updated versions.

Just installed nornal Ubuntu here. Steam works well on this system and should function with Proton.

It might be better to stick with Ubuntu because you're familiar with it.

I've worked with Ubuntu-based systems before. It seems I should have mentioned ElementaryOS and xubuntu. This is just my personal taste, though I don't really enjoy the Ubuntu interface.

Great choice! I was considering how the games could enhance the experience.

You can obtain a theme pack and tailor it. Flat remix is suggested—it really helps. https://github.com/daniruiz/flat-remix/b.../README.md

This particular bundle appears quite appealing, so I'll take a closer look. Would it influence how Steam or its games function during installation or use?

It seems the packs are merely variations, so everything should be okay.
