That's one of the reasons I've held off on upgrading for so long. But after years of waiting I'd just sort of given up on DDR5. Current rumours/leaks seem to suggest DDR5 isn't going to be a thing until Zen4 in 2022. Plus there'd likely be a signifiant early adoption price premium, like there has been with previous generations of RAM. Although, if the 3900x doesn't make sense for me, and I'm not going to jump on the current discount prices, it might make sense to at least wait for more news on the Ryzen 4000 series. I doubt it's going to be anything groundbreaking, but it might knock the 3000 series prices down a bit.
It should be ready by next year, but definitely. I’d go for a 3700X instead of a 3900X. The 3900X is mainly there to let AMD release a Ryzen 9 model alongside Intel’s i9s. Save the money you’d lose and invest it in a solid X570 board and the top cooler you can afford. That way, you’ll get better performance.
