I'm searching for a CPU that fits your needs. It should be reasonably available yet still challenging. A server I used runs with about 16 threads, 3-4 cores, and plenty of memory. Working at a supplier, I often scavenge old parts from discarded DDR3 racks when upgrading to DDR4. My friends and I consider running servers on our PCs, but I want something dedicated. I explore options like PcPartPicker, only to realize it doesn't support filtering by memory type. Eventually, I turn to forums for guidance. I'm looking for a CPU with 18 threads, at least 4 cores, boost clock up to 4.2 GHz, and support DDR3 ECC memory. Your help would mean a lot. Thank you. (I plan to use something like the R9 290 and maximize RAM with compatible motherboards.)

I ran a 1.12.2 forge server smoothly on my 4-core/8-thread CPU with 16GB RAM—definitely something extra. Consider DDR3 and an i7 3770K or 4790K if you want better performance. Keep in mind the sockets differ, so pick your motherboard wisely. Also, a chipset labeled 'Z' is required to overclock the processor.

How many companions are there? A handful of five or fewer should work just fine. Even a basic Pentium G620 can handle it.

We've got numerous mods causing issues with some of our well-constructed systems (Da Vinci ships, Twilight Forest).

I picked a cool gadget today and upgraded its motherboard. I got an X79 for 40€ and two Xeons for around 30€—one with 4 cores and 4 threads at 3GHz, another with 4 cores and 8 threads at 4GHz.
