I'm searching for a RAM upgrade for your Dell G15 5515 Ryzen laptop that works well with gaming. You mainly play Forza Horizon 5 and a few others, wanting smooth performance without frame drops. You're interested in purchasing from places like Best Buy or Amazon using gift cards. I see the available RAM options listed in this image. Since Crucial's scan tool didn't show any choices, I'm here to help you decide.

Laptops come in various designs. Some feature a single connector that’s permanently soldered with one dim slot available, while others have two. The information suggests the latter setup. They usually evaluate fewer memory brands, which might mean important models weren’t tested. For gaming rigs, typical RAM is around 16GB, so your system would likely support 2x8GB sticks up to 32GB, or possibly even 64GB if it was released before the 32GB standard. Using two sticks offers better performance than one due to dual-channel capability.

What amount of RAM do you possess now? How much space is consumed during gaming and streaming sessions? Have you explored this setup before? If your system is nearing memory limits, adding more RAM probably won’t significantly improve performance.

It came with 8GB of RAM, and no one has adjusted the settings. This limit restricts my game performance, showing a low memory warning at 9.4/7.4 GB.

I considered a 16GB storage, since those alerts appeared when no other applications were running.

Use CPU-Z to check if you own one 1x8 stick or two 2x4 sticks. If it’s the single stick, consider getting another for dual-channel performance. The tool should indicate your current RAM setup so you know what to purchase. If you already have two, swap them both to 2x8. ~Note: 16 GB works, but 32 GB is usually more than needed for gaming. Also remember streaming needs strong processing power and sufficient bandwidth to handle encoding without lag; a RAM upgrade might not be enough on its own.

The idea that 16 GB isn’t sufficient is surprising. Many people have faced this issue with certain games, but I’ve been skeptical because consoles are limited to 16 GB and developers usually aim for more than that. The old norm was around 8 GB, but creators often approached it nearer to 9 or 10 GB, making 16 GB the natural choice. Since the next jump was 16 GB, it seemed logical. However, if you need even more, you’ll need additional storage. I’m not convinced 32 GB will be necessary for gaming in the future. That would mean using two 16 GB drives. Productivity applications also pose a challenge, as some require massive memory for certain tasks. Edited January 15, 2022 by Bombastinator

Absolutely correct, and I believe my current setup gives me sufficient performance. With a Ryzen 7 5800H and a 3050 Ti, my main concern is boosting my RAM capacity.

I've never encountered a 4GB DDR4 DIMM. Many are 8GB.
