Looking for a dependable solid network switch under $100 with at least 10 ports. No PoE needed, but reliability and strong performance are key. Since this is your first time buying one, focus on sturdy build quality and good speed. Check reviews for US-based options and consider models like the TP-Link TL-WN1000 or D-Link TL-SG1000.

I believe I don’t require anything beyond 1Gb at the moment. I don’t own any gadgets that exceed that speed.

8 ports could suffice, but 10 might be more suitable.

I’d prefer ten, though if absolutely necessary I might upgrade later. My goal is to eventually connect around ten devices via Ethernet, though that’s still on the horizon. What matters most is a system with strong, dependable performance.

It would handle the task for $39 8 ports and $82 for 16 ports, though I’m not sure about the speeds.

In reality any 16-port switch would work well. I recommend choosing one with a metal enclosure as they tend to be more durable and dissipate heat better. For instance: 45$ TP-Link TL-SG116 16-Port Gigabit Desktop Switch - available on Newegg.com If you're willing to invest more, consider used data center equipment. For example, a 99$ unit provides a 48-port switch with warranty: Refurbished – Force 10 48-Port Gigabit Ethernet Switch S60-44-AC-R from UNIXPlus.com You might also choose to spend 50$ for two 10Gbps uplink modules, giving you several ports supporting 10GBps SFPs.

I choose the datacenter option since I prioritize durable, high-quality solutions, and it aligns perfectly with that preference. Thank you!

These network devices are going to generate a lot of noise, so if you're looking for quiet, this isn't the right place.

Datacentre might not be the best deal, perhaps. They could be noisier, consume more energy, and might actually be more likely to fail due to years of operation under various conditions. Replacing fans alone could save money compared to buying a simple small office/home office setup.
