Your current router (ASUS RT-N66U B1) is quite old and struggling with speed and reliability. You're considering upgrading to a GT-AXE 11000, but are worried about range and cost—around $500 seems steep. You're open to a mesh setup but think a $400–$500 system might not deliver the performance you need. I’d appreciate any recommendations on where to find suitable options in that price range.

Mesh configurations are now quite efficient. When picking mesh, focus on placement without obstructions—straight lines between nodes work best and usually cover a wide area. Think about how many nodes you require, then explore options. Suggested models include: 1. Asus Ai Mesh AX6100 (available in sets of two) – supports up to 5500 sqft, WiFi 6 standard; 2. Netgear Orbi AX6000; 3. Netgear Orbi AX4200; 4. TP Link Deco W7200.
