Searching for a fresh motherboard option.
Hey there! I’m just getting started with building my first PC. I purchased a used MSI Tomahawk B450 Max and a new AMD Ryzen 5 5600X. When the CPU finally arrived, I began assembling everything but the red light kept appearing and the screen wouldn’t show up. After trying to fix it by reattaching parts and reseating the CPU and cooler, the issue persisted. I’m considering replacing the motherboard and might need a new one. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I’m aiming to keep costs under $100, but I’m open to spending a bit more if it’s worthwhile.

I think you're all right. Unless you're really aiming for a tiny boost in speed. Or if you're using or planning to use a PCIe 4 NVMe drive, just look for one that lets you update the BIOS without needing a CPU—like the flash BIOS button on MSI. Otherwise, you might need to get a compatible CPU first to update your BIOS. (From a store, a friend, or AMD directly. The third option seems to depend on where you live.)
