Searching for a fresh modem with no guidance on choices.
My modem has completely failed over the past week and I need a replacement. My ISP offers 150 Mbps, and I already have a router set up, so I don’t need a separate combo. I’m looking for something that’s just a bit above the limit—around 200 Mbps.
“Modem” comes in many types. Different ISPs sometimes don’t work well with certain models, making things unpredictable. I’m planning to check with the ISP about their preferred modem and purchase one just to prevent issues. Having a router or WiFi access point doesn’t mean you need to activate it.
Which ISP are you connected to? Coaxial, DSL, or fiber? If you're using Xfinity, look at their site for approved modem models; other providers usually list similar information.
They’re typically offered as modems or gateways together, while DSL connections usually come with just a gateway.
