Hey there! I get what you're going through. When pain hits hard, it's easy to turn to distractions. I've tried Borderlands 3 and Fallout 4 so many times I can recall the Boston area from memory. I spent $80 on Assassin's Creed Valhalla, but honestly, it feels a bit far from what I'm looking for. I want something simple, like old-school games—maybe something with short cut scenes or movies? Netflix has some great options. What do you think?

Outer Worlds offers a solid experience in a concise format, drawing parallels to Fallout. The Metro 2033 lineup provides an enjoyable FPS adventure. Bioshock delivers an exceptional narrative.

I rarely engage in FPS titles, yet Titanfall 2 offers a solid campaign without any cutscenes, according to what I remember.

The Dishonored series is a collection of excellent titles that encourage personal interpretation.

Picked up some cool games from my Steam library: Bullets Per Minute is a rhythm shooting title. No plot, just fire to the beat. Cyberpunk 2077 is fun even with its flaws. DOOM 2016 and DOOM Eternal are intense experiences—DOOM keeps it simple with few cutscenes and lots of action. Resident Evil Village offers a gripping story but stays concise. Mostly short games unless you enjoy harder modes, speedruns, or extra content.

Many recommendations so far, except for the Doom titles and Dusk, fall short because they lack depth in storytelling and world design, even without traditional cutscenes. OP seems to still follow John Romero's well-known idea that a game’s narrative should match the intensity of a pornographic film. It’s puzzling what he anticipated from Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, especially since it isn’t an FPS and the series has consistently prioritized storytelling with its historical context and complex themes like the Da Vinci Code or genetic memory concepts. I’d recommend checking out retro FPS games and remakes such as Dusk, Ion Fury, Hard Reset, Shadow Warrior, and Project Warlock. These offer quick, self-aware, old-school shooting experiences with little emphasis on plot.
