Hello! Welcome. I have your current specs: Windows 10, CPU i7-7700 @3.60MHz, GPU 2070, motherboard ASUS PRIME H270-PLUS. You're looking for a reliable upgrade path that supports gaming at 1440p and allows room for future GPU improvements. Since you can't upgrade the CPU without a motherboard overhaul, I'll focus on options that fit your budget of around $300 to $400. Let me know if you'd like suggestions within that range!

Budget around $400 for motherboard and CPU. You mentioned it's DDR4—what speed are you looking for? I’d suggest checking out the Intel 13400F and the MSI MAG B660 TOMAHAWK DDR4 kit for a total of $383 without RAM. You could also consider upgrading to the 12400F for better performance.

Yes at the MAX. I see 32 GB of RAM with a speed of around 2400 MHz.

The RAM is being used, though performance is quite slow. It might be because XMP isn't turned on—let me know if you're unsure about that.

I'm not certain, but I'll search for more info on XMP. You might want to check specialized forums or official documentation. Let me know if you need help finding a reliable source!

It varies by country since XMP stands for Extreme Memory Profile. RAM speeds of 3200Mhz may lag until XMP is activated in the BIOS. Your CPU cooler might need replacement; the 13400F includes one, though it isn’t optimal. https://pcpartpicker.com/list/NgD4Tn

I'm still getting the hang of all this tech stuff. The Cooler Master site mentions a potential BIOS problem that might affect compatibility, but it could also be just a warning they include. It's worth checking if an update is needed before installing anything new.

Fair! Feel free to ask if you have any questions. Swapping the motherboard and CPU might look tough at first, but it’s actually manageable with just a screwdriver. You’ll need thermal paste for reusing the cooler, a cleaning method before installation, and proper mounting brackets. Choosing a 12400F or 13400F with an existing cooler is usually the simplest option, or you can opt for a budget air cooler. It’s true some boards come with older BIOS versions, which may need updating to support newer CPUs—this is highlighted as a caution in PcPartPicker. Unfortunately, for this board you’d likely need a CPU that matches the earliest BIOS version to update it. The 13400F demands a more recent BIOS than the 12400F, though availability in 2023 may include an updated one. Overall, it can get complicated unless you’re familiar with the process.

You can go with MSI PRO Z790-P WIFI DDR4 motherboard, it comes with the BIOS needed from factory to support the 12400F and 13400F. I forgot to check that earlier on the previous post, my bad. Sorry about the confusion. 2 links, one with 12400F and one with 13400F. I went DDR4 motherboard as you can re use your RAM. There is a DDR5 motherboard of this one as well. https://pcpartpicker.com/list/sztt2m https://pcpartpicker.com/list/cJ37d9
