You’re using the 24GB of budget Crucial memory. It operates at a maximum speed of 3200MHz. XMP is active, which helps reach that performance.

Now operating at 3200 with system failures. Likely due to stock speeds at 2400.

The kit supports up to 2400 units. Please verify the exact memory model you're using. A 3200MHz clock speed isn't assured on Zen+. Using 2866 or 2933 should work well, with minimal impact.

I purchased it since I previously owned a GTX 1060 with 6GB RAM, which was always at full capacity. My display is 1080p, so I upgraded to an RTX 3060 now. The CPU is overheating and stuttering. Memory was clocked at 2400MHz initially and increased to 3200MHz, but the system is crashing and flashing the DRAM light now.

This is why I aim for improved recall.

I purchased two important 8GB drives together. Later I removed one from another nearly identical system. Updated August 19, 2022 by themazda123 (spelling corrected)

Three dimming units might be contributing to the issue. However, if you need additional RAM for game development while maintaining reasonable performance, upgrading to 2x16GB would be ideal. Are you purchasing in the U.S.?

Almost the same specs might not be enough, and having three sticks isn’t ideal. A 3200MHz frequency isn’t a strict requirement for the first few Ryzen models even with ample memory. Regardless, the gap in performance between 3200 and higher frequencies is likely to be minor once stability is achieved. It’s accurate that Ryzen tends to be more affected by memory speed than Intel CPUs had previously, but other factors will eventually take over. Your original need for extra RAM because the GPU was fully utilized doesn’t really apply here. As @Fasauceome notes, it probably makes more sense to aim for 32GB since that’s the only practical choice and would cost well over $100.
