I’ve disabled news and interests in my Windows 10 task bar, but now they appear in the search box. I just want to use my own system, which I bought. I don’t want anyone or anything else telling me what to read. Keep that for Microsoft websites. Stay away from my operating system. How can I turn this off?

You have the option to hide the dedicated search bar. When you need to search, press the Windows key and begin typing. The interface will briefly display the search screen before transitioning to results. A quick search didn't reveal a method to disable this panel directly, or my query was incorrect.

Windows 10 and 11 search improvements are now live. The domain has connected to the computer, displaying documents and company/school-wide shares. Others see a daily topic, similar to Google and Bing. This replaces the previous empty panel. To disable it, adjust settings in Windows 10 (search or privacy) or in Windows 11 (Settings > Privacy & Security > Search Settings > Show search highlights).

Click right-click in the taskbar, select Search, then disable "Show Search Highlights" to hide it.
