my issues stem from receiving a Google Home device, but I’m staying in university housing where they provide their own Wi-Fi. The captive portal network blocks connections, and linking it publicly isn’t recommended. I’m trying to set up my own network for the Google Home, considering using a travel router in bridge mode—but checking university policies shows these are restricted. I’m wondering if it’s possible to make a travel router undetectable by administrators or if there’s another workaround I haven’t thought of.

You might connect your device via WiFi and share it as a hotspot, though this could be restricted. I’d contact the network administrator to confirm. This issue is likely already discussed.

I'll likely check them out eventually and inquire about it.
