On a cooler temperature I have an extra fan, but it doesn’t really help much. I think air coolers are better for heavy bursts, so I’m aiming for a liquid cooler instead. They perform better under sustained loads. Ryzen could work, but my setup still functions. I don’t have the budget left for a full system with matching RAM and processor specs.
Maybe that 5.65ghz Pentium 4 would easily beat the FX 9590. Do you know that the Ryzen 7700X runs faster than your FX? It doesn’t matter if you can hit high speeds, but the performance is poor. Still, it’s exciting to push older parts that far—you won’t get that with newer chips that lack much headroom. At least testing the RAM directly on the board is something you can do, and you can push 2133 pins well beyond 4000.

Ghz doesn't serve as a direct comparison for CPUs. A Ryzen 1400 outperforms the FX 9590 in nearly all tasks, especially on basic workloads. For instance, it easily surpasses the FX 9590 in every single task. This is particularly true for older budget CPUs. Simply comparing them by specifications isn't feasible. Even within the same generation, an I5 at 5GHz tends to lag behind a faster I7 at the same frequency due to internal variations. If you own an FX 9590, expect it to need a powerful cooler and a costly motherboard—often exceeding the price of a basic platform switch. Running it at full speed is possible, but only with a high-end model like the Dark Rock Pro 4, NHD 15, or similar. Otherwise, downclocking it to match an I5 at 5GHz is usually necessary.
I already own the fx9590, which I got in a bundle for 100€. Mb is Rog crosshair v formula z Ram, with 4 strips and 8Gb each. The CPU is a cooler I bought separately — the Master Hyper 212 v2 — and I also got a PSU, which was an older Corsair CX750m. The case I had was still there, though it was in poor condition; the only issue is that I lost the sides.
Currently I'm saving it until I discovered a fix for my crashing issue now I have the FX 4350 as a temporary placeholder until I get a new one.
Others have noted the situation isn't worth investing in a new motherboard, as few could support that CPU back then. Nowadays, with age, capacitors may no longer meet specs and VRM cooling could be compromised. It's regrettable you didn't check here first—purchasing a low-end Ryzen is likely a better deal than an outdated board, which may also be more costly. If you're worried about stability, used components aren't a good starting point. I think assembling a full Ryzen system will probably be more economical than buying a board for that CPU.
The funds required to properly run the 9590 exceed what a superior new board, RAM, and CPU could afford. Even the boards that only supported ASRock did not prevent failures. The only alternative was to run the 9590 much slower, a choice most users with that model had to make.
