I'm unsure if this forum is the right place for sharing this... The question asks about tools that could make games with windowed mode available, suitable for current titles and not just older ones. I don't like full-screen settings on a monitor with a 1280 x 1024 resolution (5:4 aspect); either the layout looks poor or there are black bars covering most of the screen, which could waste useful space. I usually play games in windowed mode for that reason (at 1280 x 720), and it works well. Some games don't offer a windowed option, which is a bit disappointing. My system details: GPU - Asus GTX 550 Ti, Driver version - 353.30, OS - Windows 7 Professional.

I know examples that enable borderless windowed views, but not just windowed ones.

In Steam you can navigate to Library, click a game with the right-click, then Properties. Go to Launch Options and enter "-windowed" in the field. This will launch the game in a windowed mode.

This feature is only available in games built with the Source engine. It's still a significant improvement over full-screen playback.

That key combination isn't recognized. Which game are you trying to identify?

Could be used in certain games that offer a windowed mode setting, though not all do. For testing, I attempted those commands for Mirror's Edge and then used only -windowed without results. It doesn't appear to function across any of the games I've tried, regardless of whether windowed is available. I'll give it another go—it might help.

Acknowledge that it isn't completely perfect—some games won't run and the Steam discussions don't cover everything—but it's worth trying.

Attempted. No adjustments made after setting up the program for a windowed view. Appreciate the suggestion still. Could be helpful someday, so it might not be a total loss of the 4€.
