Looking for music production tips? For hobby use, you might want to explore programs that support Real Tone cables and self-recording. Mixcraft seems like a solid choice, while you mentioned having some familiarity with Sony software—checking out their options could be helpful.

FL studio is an outstanding tool for both professional and casual projects. It’s straightforward to learn and produces high-quality music. The platform supports MIDI control and recording, making it possible to capture guitar performances with the right equipment. It offers a strong selection of third-party plugins, enabling you to add various filters, mixers, synths, and more. Many users refer to it as "Fruity Loops" because that’s what “FL” represents.

The FL was initially developed from FLTK, a special C++ library (also available in Python and other languages). FL Studio uses FLTK, but they renamed it 'Fruity Loops' for a more appealing name. It sounds like a cereal to me.

For a complimentary FL Studio substitute, check out the link provided. Mixxx serves as another suitable mixing and DJing application similar to Virtual DJ.

He doesn’t seem interested in DJing; instead, he aims to capture and develop his music from that point forward.

Mixing isn't limited to DJ work. It often means blending pre-made tracks—like instruments—to form new sounds. Mixxx makes this easy. Making your own beats requires software such as FL Studio or similar.
